Hola, I'm Richard. I'm a Product Designer based in Toronto, Canada.
Right now I'm at CIBC, working across complex user flows and design
systems in one of the more demanding design environments out there:
financial services.
Before that, I designed and researched at RBC Insurance, Symcor Inc,
and across other high-stakes, regulation-heavy domains. The kind of
work most designers avoid. Messy, ambiguous, deeply systemic.
Honestly, it's where I do my best thinking.
Much of my work lives at the intersection of complexity and clarity.
Taking something that feels impossible to navigate and making it feel
obvious to the person using it.
I come from a psychology background, which shapes how I approach
everything. I'm less interested in what users do and more interested
in why. That distinction matters more than most teams realize.
My working style is pretty deliberate. I break problems apart before
I try to solve them, share rough ideas early to force real reactions,
and treat data as a flashlight. Useful for finding where something's
broken, not for telling you how to fix it.
Lately I've been thinking a lot about AI. Specifically the gap
between the capital being poured into it and the returns that have
yet to materialize. As a designer, that tension feels important. The
tools are moving fast, but the experiences still have a long way to go.
Outside of work, I'm usually on my road bike, on a mountain somewhere
snowboarding, or deep in a rabbit hole about markets and human
behaviour.
